Flat Earth Brewing over in St. Paul has a few new offerings coming out soon, and one of them caught my eye…their Winter Warlock English Barleywine. My last experience with a barleywine, Rogue’s Old Crustacean, left a little to be desired, so I’m hoping this one turns out better. They’re also releasing (or bringing back) their Black Helicopter Coffee Stout, Rode Haring Flanders Red Ale, and Bermuda Triangle Tripel.
Thanks to BeerSage over at BeerNews.org for the heads up.

I’ve found English-style barleywines to be quite different from American-style. I looooove American style, but the English styles I’ve had–admittedly not that many–I haven’t enjoyed as much.

Last years one was more sweet than the hoppy ones I have had from like Great Divide and Sierra Nevada. Golden in color. Before their bottles started exploding I got about 5 of the Winter Warlocks. I liked it. Kinda seemed like a triple.

That’s right, I forgot about that! Did they ever say what the problem was? Some kind of production issue?

Actually I believe it was only the Porters bottles that were doing it but they had to pull them all. A faulty line of bottles I guess or carbonation. I guess there are still cases at the warehouse that are still blowing up. And as I was researching to clarify I guess their Convention ales were exploding also, but that was just to tops popping off due to a washer that didn’t remove the yeast good enough.
