This coming Saturday, Nov. 1 is the 10th annual “Teach a Friend to Home Brew Day”, sponsored by the American HomeBrewers Association. I’ve registered my brewery to make it official. We’re site #47 in the Residence category, the Captain’s Backyard Brewery. My future brother-in-law is coming over, and we’re planning to brew up a clone recipe of Summit Winter Ale, probably their best offering each year in my opinion. Nice rich caramel and malt flavors, with just enough hops to make it interesting.

I love this idea, I really wish someone was with me on my first try. It would of made life a lot easier and well the beer probably taste better =)

Yeah, I remember my first attempt, beer turned out OK but I was thoroughly confused the whole time. It gets easier.
How’s your stout coming along? Are you still bubbling or has it slowed down?

Dave, your first post made me too scared to EVER try homebrewing. I would have probably sat in the kitchen crying.

It’s still a bubbling. Hasen’t really slowed down either.

Hah my first post scared you? Hah it isn’t scary at all. It’s fun. The whole time I was brewing I was like yeah this is fun, maybe the Hop 15 and 120 Minute IPA helped that though.

Wait, so you started brewing at like the crack of dawn, right? You were also drinking 20% beer at that hour?! Wow.

I’m sure your beer will taste just fine Dave. Important thing is to just have fun with it, and if you don’t like the beer for some reason, think about what you can change/improve next time around in either the recipe or process. Not to get philisophical, but homebrewing is really a journey, the learning is what’s most fun for me. And there’s no such thing as a perfect beer (unless you’re talking about Dogfish Head 60 Minute or Pliny).

Aaron – we’re going to get you homebrewing one of these days. Don’t worry. You can easily do it in your apartment.

Honestly, If you have a small apartment Aaron homebrewing might be a pain in the ass. I know in my old apartment it wouldn’t of went to well but maybe I just have to much shit and I bought a huge damn brew kettle =) And yes I had a 120 Minute IPA and a Hop 15. By the time I was done with the brew and done cleaning I passed out a tad bit buzzed, ok really buzzed but this was at like 3pm. Brew day took a long damn time =)

That’s funny Dave, I’ve had those kind of brew days as well. When I was doing extracts, my small kitchen served me well, but I can see how storing equipment could be an issue if you don’t have much space.
